Saxophone tuning notes

The saxophone preset supplies concert A2, A3, A4, A5 targets. It displays sounding pitch, not transposed written saxophone notes.

Saxophone preset targets at A4 = 440 Hz
TargetNoteFrequency
1A2110.00 Hz
2A3220.00 Hz
3A4440.00 Hz
4A5880.00 Hz

Targets are listed in preset order. Frequencies above use A4 = 440 Hz; changing Reference A4 adjusts the live tuner targets.

How to tune your saxophone

Warm up, then sustain a note with normal breath support. Adjust the mouthpiece gradually. On E-flat alto or baritone sax, written F-sharp sounds concert A; on B-flat tenor or soprano sax, written B sounds concert A.

Does the saxophone tuner transpose for alto or tenor?

No. The display uses concert pitch. Use the transposition for your instrument to relate written notes to sounding notes, and choose Chromatic when checking pitches outside the A preset.

What do flat, sharp, and cents mean?

Flat means your pitch is below the target; sharp means it is above it. A cent is one hundredth of a semitone. Move toward 0 cents using small adjustments. For strings, tighten to raise pitch and loosen to lower it.

Can I change the reference pitch?

Reference A4 defaults to 440 Hz and accepts 400–480 Hz. Match your ensemble’s reference before tuning. The selected preset keeps its note names while its target frequencies adjust.
